I do not often talk about cases like this one with both parents involved. A parent, be they male or female, has a duty to protect their child's well being above everything else and there is no excuse for not doing so.:
BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. -- A girl’s parents were arrested Wednesday on suspicion they severely beat and abused the 9-year-old, including forcing her to eat naked on the floor "like a dog," Bullhead City police said.
Juan Corral Jr., the girl’s stepfather, was booked into the Mohave County Jail in Kingman on charges of sexual contact with a minor, sexual molestation of a minor, endangerment per domestic violence and aggravated assault per domestic violence.
Dawn Corral, 32, was arrested on charges of child abuse per domestic violence, endangerment per domestic violence and aggravated assault per domestic violence.
The girl was also forced to remove her clothing and eat her dinner on the floor "like a dog" and made to go to the bathroom on the floor "like a dog," Montague said.
During a week in January 2008, Corral Jr. punched and slapped the victim in the head and punched her in the stomach numerous times, Montague said. The victim was so severely beaten, she missed an entire week of school because her body was badly bruised, Montague said.
Corral Jr. also inappropriately touched her as another form of "discipline," Montague said.
The victim's mother stood by and watched the abuse and did nothing to protect her daughter, Montague said. - Read the entire article here

Truly awful case involving toddlers/infants
This is a case, if the allegations are true, that is just horrific and demonstrates again why this is and should be a crime:
HOUSTON — A Houston woman arrested Wednesday night and charged with three counts of possession of child pornography went before a judge Friday.
Crystal Dawn Wallace, 34, was arrested at her home in the 8900 block of South Braeswood.
Investigators with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force said Wallace was sharing more than 500 videos of child pornography using a commercial file-trading network called BearShare.
The videos were so disturbing, investigators like Lt. Mathew Gray had a hard time viewing the evidence.
“The videos that Miss Wallace had showed were children – infant age, in diapers – being raped, screaming for their mother. And it affects all of us as parents, family members, as cops,” Gray said.
This is disturbing beyond words. There is no valid reason or excuse for a person to take part in something like this. This is a time when the word "evil" should be used.
“She understood that these were live children that were being assaulted, that this was something that’s real that she’s watching on these videos,” Gray said. - Read the entire article here
One good thing is that at a bail hearing a Judge did this:
Harris County Assistant DA Eric Devlin was seeking $50,000 bail for each count of child pornography possession faced by Crystal Wallace.
But after hearing some of the evidence, Judge Mark Kent Ellis doubled the amount -- $300,000 for three counts.

Oscar Time - The Reader - A horrific truth behind the fiction
I had an article sent to me about the movie "The Reader." I'll skip past the obvious issue of a child being exploited, some would say sexually abused, by an older woman and look at some other things that the article brought up. Here are some excerpts from that article:
The acclaimed movie has put into focus the evil done by the 3,700 female guards employed at Nazi concentration and extermination camps.
Their monstrous crimes included selecting which children would be sent to the gas chambers and making items such as lampshades from the skin of Holocaust victims.
When I read the article it reminds me once again that gender is moot when it comes to these type of things.
Some point to Hermine Braunsteiner — known as the Mare of Majdanek, a German extermination camp in Poland.
She took part in choosing women and children to be executed and whipped several women to death.
She also killed women by stamping on them.
Like Rinkel, Braunsteiner also fled to the US and married an American after the war, living a comfortable life until Nazi-hunters tracked her down.
Her husband, Russell Ryan, a US air force mechanic who met her while serving in Germany, told a journalist in 1964: “My wife, sir, wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
The next piece is chilling when you consider what her husband said:
Yet at Braunsteiner’s 1975 trial in Germany, a witness told how she “seized children by their hair and threw them on trucks heading to the gas chambers”.
She was convicted of murdering 80 people, abetting the murder of 102 children and collaborating in the murder of 1,000 people.
The article also looked at how some of these people tried to minimize their responsibilty for their actions:
Historian Kathrin Kompisch said: “The fact is women were involved at all levels of the Third Reich’s most infamous and brutal crimes.
“There were always choices, even within the Third Reich, and women often made their own choices as much as men.
“And at the end of the war these women tried to diminish their responsibility by saying they were just cogs in the all-male machine which gave the orders.”
Infamous brute Herta Bothe was 24 when she worked as a guard on the forced march of prisoners from central Poland to Belsen.
Later, as prisoners carried containers of food from the kitchen to their huts at Belsen, she enjoyed taking pot-shots at them with her pistol.
She would also pick out sick girls to beat them with a stick.
“She had no remorse. She couldn’t understand she had done something wrong. She felt she was a victim.”
In an interview nine years ago, Bothe said: “Did I make a mistake? No. The mistake was it was a concentration camp, but I had to go to it otherwise I would have been put into it myself. That was my mistake.”
But, like others involved in the SS mass murders, she was selected to work there because of her devotion to the Nazis’ warped world view.
Dr Simone Erpel, author of a paper on female Nazi camp guards, told The Sun: “Female guards like Rinkel and Bothe use the excuse that it was necessary to blindly obey orders or risk life and limb.
“One woman called to duty at the SS training camp in Ravensbruck in 1944 did refuse. Her refusal did not result in repression of any kind.” - Read the entire article here

Baby tortured and killed
All to often these cases are happening:
PENDLETON -- A Milton-Freewater woman facing a 47-count indictment for allegedly murdering her 2-year-old son early this month will remain in the Umatilla County Jail without bail.
Polanco allegedly has admitted to officials that she pushed her son, Lucas Isaac Polanco, Jan. 2 out of frustration because he was crying, causing him to hit his head on the bottom of a kitchen table. She also reportedly has confessed to injuring him on previous occasions.
Lucas suffered "blunt force trauma" to his head and other injuries Jan. 2, officials said. Ambulance paramedics were called to the Polanco residence that day for reports that Lucas wasn't breathing or moving. He was airlifted to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland where he died Jan. 4 at 10:30 a.m. A probable cause affidavit prepared by Milton-Freewater police states: "While being treated at (the hospital), medical staff identified several injuries to Lucas Isaac Polanco to include but not limited to severe traumatic brain injury, possibly separated or fractured left shoulder and a lacerated liver."
District Attorney Dean Gushwa said last week that within days preceding the fatal assault, Polanco stabbed the back of Lucas' head 15 times with a needle-like instrument used for blood glucose checks.
Loretta Polanco, who had accompanied Lucas to the hospital, was arrested there Jan. 4 shortly after his death. She allegedly admitted that day "intentionally injuring" Lucas on Jan. 2 at their residence "and on multiple other occasions over the last six or seven months, causing the above described injuries," according to the police affidavit. - Read the entire article here

Mother uses her 5 year for prostitution
In a truly awful case out of Kansas a 48-year-old woman is accused of prostituting her 5-year-old daughter, and the prosecutor claims it was not the first time and that she did the same to her other children when they were between the ages of 8 and 14.:
Sedgwick County District Attorney Nola Foulston on Friday sought a judge's permission to introduce testimony from two of the woman's grown daughters, who said she sold them for sex when they were between the ages of 8 and 14.
When the mother goes on trial, however, the jury will only hear about the 5-year-old. Prosecutors say a man the mother knew for years paid her for sex acts with the child.
The key witness in the case is now 7 years old. She testified in a previous hearing that her mother took her to see Stafford on several occasions, where he performed various sex acts with her.
In return, the girl said Stafford gave her mother $6 or $7, which her mother used to buy alcohol and cigarettes.
Sadly the adult daughters appear to be split on what to do:
The adult daughters told Waller during a pretrial hearing Friday that they didn't want to testify against their mother.
In court, a 23-year-old daughter denied having sex with Stafford. But a social worker said the woman reported two years ago that she did have sex with Stafford, starting when she was 9 years old.
The woman changed her story in court Friday, after visiting her mother last week in jail.
"I can't testify against my mother," she said, crying. "I can't do it. I'm not doing it."
Her 25-year-old sister said she came forward when she found out the 5-year-old was going through what she had endured.
"I wanted to get it off my chest so I could go on with my life," the woman said, but she added that she was reluctant to testify against her mother.
She said she was 11 when her mom began taking her to see Stafford. The woman said she heard Stafford ask her mother whether she would bring over her other daughter, two years younger. - Read the entire article here.

House of Horrors
A truly sad story out of Texas in which a 13 year old boy was allegedly killed by his adopted mother because he was making her "lust":
It was, investigators said, a house of horrors.
An East Texas woman accused of murdering her adopted 13-year-old son killed him with an array of household weapons -- beating him with a broom handle, a mop handle, a rake and a baseball bat, an affidavit filed by a Cass County district attorney's investigator said.
Some of those items were handed to the mother by another child who was ordered to fetch them for her, the affidavit said. The other child at one point refused to give his mother the baseball bat, so she got it and a computer cord herself and continued the beatings, the affidavit said.
The victim was bound hand and foot with plastic ties some of the time, the investigator said, and was kicked and beaten again with the bat when he couldn't sit up.
This is torture. And to force other children to participate like that is another form of torture. Sadly there is more:
Cynthia Hudson, 45, of Queen City, Texas, is jailed in Cass County on murder charges in the death of her adopted son, Samuel Hudson. Her husband, William, is accused of trying to dispose of items used to beat the children.
Investigators said Cynthia Hudson attempted suicide two days after her son's death. A note admitting to the murder was found in her pocket at the hospital, investigators said.
Two other boys and a girl -- who authorities said were abused by being whipped excessively and confined in a "prayer room" without food or water and limited trips to the bathroom -- have been removed from the family home and placed in foster care.
One child said she was confined in the "prayer room" from April to June of this year, getting bread only twice a week, investigators said.
The affidavit said the children told of being punished by having to run laps. One said she had to put a pepper in her mouth for an hour.
A surveillance camera in the room has been seized. Authorities believe alarms were placed on the children's bedroom doors to alert Cynthia Hudson if they left, the affidavit said.
The children told investigators they were punished for bad grades, lying or failure to perform pushups, jumping jacks and races with each other, the affidavit said. They told of being beaten with a fishing rod, a water hose, a metal bat, a paddle and their mother's fist. There sometimes would be up to 200 licks, one of the boys told investigators.
Another article stated:
Other punishments included fasting, whippings with a cord, whippings with a fishing rod doubled together, being locked in a room without clothing, being forced to wear diapers with Crisco on them until the bruises were healed, being required to perform 500 to 1,000 push-ups, being kicked in the bottom and having their nose and ears pulled, according to the court document.

Female pedophile?
Another sad story of a possible female pedophile. She allegedly said she did not think it was that big of a deal.:
During a three-month investigation involving Russell J. Rees, 34, of Sequim, detectives from the Clallam County Sheriff's Department said they confiscated his computer and found CDs with recordings of his wife, Gail E. Smith, 39, a 9-year-old girl and another female who is still being investigated.
Smith, who is also known as Gail E. Rees, appeared in Clallam County Superior Court accused of sending or bringing into the state pictures of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, incest, sexual exploitation of a minor with elements of a crime and first-degree child molestation, according to the court documents.
Smith was read some e-mail conversations that allegedly took place between her and a man in Georgia who was apparently viewing a Web camera at the time, according to court documents.
"During the interview, Gail told me that she admitted to having done the above sexually explicit acts with [the child] that she knows that it was wrong and is sorry for what she had done," Sheriff's Deputy John Hollis said in the statement.
"Although she stated something to the effect of, 'I didn't think it was that big of a deal,'" said Hollis.
The incidents that the couple are accused of are separate, but the computer evidence collected at Rees' home is what led to the arrest of Smith, Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Lyman Moores said.

Mother murders child to keep boyfriend
Another just awful case of a mother killing her child:
BRIDGEWATER, N.S. -- "Mommy, don't," were the last words Karissa Boudreau spoke as her mother strangled her to death with a piece of twine in the woods outside of Hebbville, N.S.
Her words were read in court Friday morning from an agreed upon statement of facts as Penny Boudreau, 34, pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of her 12-year-old daughter.
Why did she kill her only child?
Boudreau's common-law spouse, Vernon MacCumber, was not present for the plea, Smith said, adding he had no way of knowing Boudreau would take Karissa's life when he told her shortly before the murder that Boudreau had to choose between keeping Karissa or him.
Tensions between the mother and daughter had run high ever since Karissa had moved from her father's house in Shelburne County in November, 2007.
MacCumber, according to the statement of facts, had told Boudreau that living in their apartment felt cramped with her daughter around.
Boudreau then decided to kill her daughter, court heard.
Rather than sending the girl back to live with the father or any number of other options she brutally murders her child.
She drove her daughter to a Sobey's parking lot and left her in the car while she went in. While inside, she phoned her boyfriend to say Karissa was missing. Boudreau then drove to nearby Hebbville, where she chased her daughter out of the red Dodge Neon, forced her to the ground, and choked her with a piece of twine.
Court heard she could feel her daughter struggling beneath her.
With her daughter's body slumped over in the front seat of her car, Boudreau drove to a Tim Horton's and threw out the twine in a coffee cup. She then drove to the LaHave River and disposed of Karissa's body, court heard.
And now the "could a mom do this?" comment :

Child rape case
I'll let the article (and video at the article site) speak for themselves on this one except to say that protecting your child is a parents duty and there is no excuse for not doing so when it comes to something like this:
AUSTIN (KXAN) - Police are looking for an Austin couple accused of forcing young children to do sexual acts for photos and videos.
Police believe Adrian Navarro, 29, and Mariana Garcia, 23, are trying to flee the area with at least two of the girls in the videos, both of whom appeared to be under 5.
Thirteen photos depicted child pornography. On one hard drive, police said they found 500 photographs and more than 15 pornographic videos of children under 18.
Some of the footage included a man who appeared to be Navarro engaging in a sex act with a girl under 5 years old, with Garcia nearby giving her instructions. - Read the entire article here

Police are searching for Mariana Garcia, 23, and Adrian Navarro, 29. In one video, Garcia, was seen holding a girl “that appears under the age of 2” while Navarro, assaulted the child, according to arrest affidavits. - Read the entire article here
