Here is an ongoing case in which the mother has been arrested for allegedly abusing her children. Again. this woman had already pled guilty in the past to child abuse charges and yet nothing. How much more harm was done to these children? When will our family court system get its act together and stop treating children like property?
FRANKLIN, Tenn. - A Spring Hill woman has been arrested after police said she imprisoned two children without food, water, or even light.
Police said Shelley Blair locked a 13-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy in an upstairs room with no food, water, light or even a bathroom.
Police found the children walking on the road last fall after they apparently escaped. Both were malnourished and bruised.

Shelly Blair pleaded guilty previously to child abuse charges before the latest incident, causing members of the community to wonder why the state allowed her to possibly do it again to the same child.
Shanell Cuzzort used to take care of Blair's then 7-year-old girl but noticed odd behavior.
"She used to eat out of garbage cans. Kids found her eating out of garbage cans at school," said Cuzzort.
According to court records the girl had bite marks, bruises and was starved. Blair was sentenced to three years of supervised probation. Cuzzort hasn't seen the family since the incident until two weeks ago Cuzzort's husband saw that same girl with Blair.
"(The child) looked like she was 6 years old when she's 13," said Cuzzort.
The Department of Children's Services and the juvenile court judge in Maury County said just because a parent is convicted of child abuse charges does not mean they automatically lose their parental rights. Yes it is acceptable for some parents to regain custody of their children. However when you have abuse that comes down to bite marks, bruises, starvation, and results in behaviors where the child is eating out of garbage cans? That is not a case of someone just having poor parenting skills or being over zealous with disciplinary measures. This is a mother who is actively torturing her own child and causing who knows how much long term damage. In cases like this there should be no return of custody. Period.
