According to the article the child was kept captive in the house for 3 years. During that time he was locked in the bathroom when Gigliotti wasn’t at home and was forced to sleep either on the bathroom floor on in the hallway. The bathroom window was also boarded up.
One Sunday he managed to escape after the suspect allegedly forced the boy to strip naked, wrapped his hands in tape and beat him with a 3 foot block of wood and a garden hose with the metal tip still attached. The beating was so bad it broke the boy’s arm not to mention severe lacerations all over his body.
The police report states "The weapons cut him on nearly every part of his body, including his head, back, buttocks, shoulder and hands..." And there is more:
Nugent said that lacerations on the boy's buttocks were so bad that "there was no way this young man could even sit down."
Besides the boy's most recent injuries, the affidavit said, medical staffers found scars from old beatings on his body.
