NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A former substitute teacher has pleaded guilty to a sex crime involving a student. Julie Petty pleaded guilty Monday to sexual battery by an authority figure. PAINESVILLE -- A former ninth-grade math teacher who had sexual contact with a student in her classroom before the school day began was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison.

Maggie Laughlin, 23, sobbed as she apologized for her actions before Lake County Common Pleas Judge Paul Mitrovich. Laughlin, a first-year teacher at Shore Junior High School in Mentor, admitted to performing oral sex on the student the last eight days of school when she pleaded guilty earlier this month to eight counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a juvenile. She claimed he initiated the relationship, which lasted about two months.

Her attorney indicated that Laughlin cooperated with police and admitted her mistakes to spare the victim, but Assistant Prosecutor Jason Wuliger said Laughlin showed no remorse and kept in contact with the victim, even asking him to lie about their relationship.

Laughlin, of Willowick, graduated in 2007 from Heidelberg College, where she was named student teacher of the year. She resigned from the district at the end of the school year, saying she planned to move to Michigan, marry her fiance and work in an all-boys school, Wuliger said. - Read the entire article here

MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) - A former Magnolia Junior High School teacher faces felony sexual assault charges after police say she repeatedly had sex with a 15-year-old boy.

An investigation into Dean began after the boy's mother found several text messages on her son's phone related to drug use and a caller refused to offer a name, an affidavit by police claims. FROSTBURG — A 24-year-old Mountain Ridge High School teacher was arrested late Wednesday on charges that she allegedly had sexual relations with one of her students over a several-month period.


The victim, who was one of Leathers’ students, told police that he had engaged in sexual intercourse with her in May when he was age 15. He also told investigators that he had ongoing sexual relations with Leathers over the last three months at her residence in Frostburg, according to court records. - Read the entire article here

A former teacher at a Powder Springs Christian school has been charged with having sex with a 14-year-old boy, Paulding County authorities said Wednesday.

Holly Michelle Barnes, 24, was charged Tuesday night with two counts of statutory rape and two counts of child molestation, said Cpl. Brandon Gurley, a spokesman for the county sheriff’s office. Barnes was later also charged with one count of Aggravated Child Molestation. No new victims had come forward by Thursday morning. Barnes, whose bond is now set at $13,950, is a former teacher at the Grace Baptist Church and Christian School, Gurley said. - Read the entire article here

CANTON - A former Fairless middle-school teacher admitted in court Monday to having a sexual relationship with an underage teen. Kathryn Gill, 29, pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Gill engaged in sexual conduct with a teenage boy between April and July, Curd said. The boy, who was older than 13 but younger than 16, attended a school in the district, but the prosecutor wouldn't say which one. - Read the entire article here

MARSHALL - A former Marshall band teacher used an Alford Plea last week for a charge of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree. Lori Ann Schulz, 33, of Faribault pleaded guilty to the charge with an Alford Plea. Under an Alford Plea, Schulz does not admit her guilt but says based on the evidence, a jury could find her guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old female student, from January to June 2003 in Marshall, court records said. - Read the entire article here

WACO - A 26-year-old former Brazos Middle School special education teacher was arrested Wednesday after Waco police investigators alleged that she was having sex and smoking marijuana with a 14-year-old student from the school.


Tara Allison Hodges, now living in Katy, Texas, surrendered to police Wednesday morning and was charged with sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between educator and student, said Waco police Sgt. Melvin Roseborough. - Read the entire article here
